Upcycling shoebox shadow theater
What you need:
Long time no sea! Are you missing a good dose of the sea? Then watch out: With our DIY shadow theater, the vacation mood will be back in no time and you'll have the perfect stage at home to bring your summer adventures back to life.
But be careful: our little crab may look cute, but it's got a lot going on behind its claws! Under the cover of the transparent sea wave, it quickly grabs your bag and sunglasses - a typical vacation mood. This DIY is great fun for families who want to bring back a bit of summer. Because the magic of being able to tell your own stories with light and shadow beats any screen - that's a promise. And the best thing? You hardly need any materials for our upcycling shadow theater. A shoe box forms the basis, plus a bit of tracing paper & clay paper and you can transform the box into a little beach theater that will make your eyes light up.
Print out the template for the shadow theater and cut out the individual parts.
Transfer the template for the figures & plants onto black construction paper and cut out the pieces.
Transfer the template for the waves and the towel onto tracing paper and cut out the pieces.
Cut a rectangular window into the back of your shoe box.
Cut two long strips into the long side of your shoe box. This side is the ceiling of your shadow theater.
If the shoe box is printed, you can laminate the cardboard with kraft paper or a colored paper of your choice. Double-sided adhesive tape is best for this.
Measure the back of your shoe box and cut white tracing paper to this size.
Stick the white tracing paper in front of the window on the inside of the shoe box.
Stick the black plants in the left-hand corners of your shoe box.
Then stick the towel onto the tracing paper.
Then stick first the large light blue and then the small dark blue wave on the right-hand side of your shoe box.
You have now completed the stage set for your shadow theater.
Now stick the figures (bathing lady, crab, bag, bikini top, sunglasses) onto the shashlik skewers.
Now all you have to do is place an LED tea light in the back of the box and the summer games can begin.
