Tape a statement
Stripe by stripe, Tanja Cappell — better known as Frau Hölle — has added plenty of sparkle to the folia universe, and of course we couldn’t resist. So we grabbed her washi tapes and turned them into four last-minute greeting cards that are fun to make and incredibly easy to recreate.
When it came to the lettering, we figured perfection is overrated — so we simply picked up the pen with our non-dominant hand. The result? Wonderfully imperfect and charming exactly because of it. Print out the template.
Grab some folded cards or cut your own folded card from cardstock in your favorite color.
Choose one of the designs from the templates.
Motif 1
Design 1: Cut the thin washi tape into short strips of different lengths and create your firework design by sticking them on freely.
Motif 2
Design 2: Cut out the sweater on the front of the card along the dashed line. On the inside, use glitter tape to create the sweater’s stripes.
Motif 3
Design 3: Take craft sticks or matches, shorten them if needed, and stick them onto the front of the card using striped washi tape. You can simply tear the tape by hand — it perfectly matches the look.
Motif 4
Design 4: Using a craft knife, cut out the paint bucket shape on the front of the card along the dashed line. Then sketch the rest of the paint bucket on the front with a pencil. On the inside, decorate the paint splashes with washi tape.
Tip: Make the lettering as wobbly and imperfect as possible — just readable enough. A great trick is to write with your non-dominant hand, for example using your left hand if you’re right-handed.
